The first thing thing that I find so disturbing about the Old Testament is the sexism. Any honest, thinking person reading
through the bible cannot ignore the blatant misogyny and barbarity towards

1 Corinthians 14: Women should remain silent in
the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the
Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands
at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.
1 Tim 2: Let a woman learn in silence
with all submissiveness. I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over
men; she is to keep silent.
25 Deuteronomy 11-1: If
men get into a fight with one another, and the wife of one intervenes to rescue
her husband from the grip of his opponent by reaching out and seizing his
genitals, 12you shall cut off her hand; show no pity.
1 Corinthians 11: But I want you to understand that the head of every man is
Christ, the head of a woman is her husband, and the head of Christ is God. Any
man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head, but any
woman who prays or prophesies with her head unveiled dishonors her head--it is
the same as if her head were shaven. For if a woman will not veil herself, then
she should cut off her hair; but if it is disgraceful for a woman to be shorn
or shaven, let her wear a veil. For a man ought not to cover his head, since he
is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. (For man was not
made from woman, but woman from man. Neither was man created for woman, but
woman for man.) That is why a woman ought to have a veil on her head, because
of the angels.
22 Deuteronomy 28-29: If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.
According to Genesis, God also tortures all women
for eternity with painful childbirth. For her transgression of eating the fruit,
God says to Eve: "I will greatly increase your pains in Childbearing; with
pain you will give birth to children."
I cannot understand how any intelligent woman is able to read these passages and continue on the path of Christianity. How does one have desire to worship a god that sees women as nothing more than a warm body with no voice and nothing to contribute to human society? How? I would love to hear the theist side of this mind blowing question.
